Writing Exercise #1: The Proof is in the GUTS!
Hello everybody! Internet Paladin here with another issue of lol, internet. Today’s update is a small one, but don’t let that fool you. It’s time for a crucial writing exercise!
To start with, I want you to pick a topic. Any topic - I’ll give you topics to write about later, I suppose, but for now I just want you to pick something you’re really passionate about; something that really, really drives you. Once you have a topic, write about it. Again, no specific style or length - just write, and don’t stop writing until you’ve gotten out everything you think about the topic.
Now, here’s the tricky part (for some). Once you have your piece written, be it poetry or prose; a long-winded thesis or just a paragraph or two (just try to write more than a couple of sentences!), I want you to go share it with someone. The more people, the more public a space, the better - but if you just want to read it off to your closest friend or significant other, that’s fine too. Read the whole thing! If you’re in a public space and nobody stops or responds, don’t worry about it - the fact that you went out in public and read something you wrote about something that you really care about is enough.
Why would I have you do this, you ask? It’s quite simple, really. In order to really get to the heart of things, you have to have the courage to speak your innermost thoughts and feelings. Once you’ve accomplished that, you can really grow as a writer.
So why are you still here? Get writing! Go find an open mic night at your local bookstore, or go tell your sweetheart just what you think about your favourite book. It doesn’t matter what you’re saying, so long as you really and truly care about it.
Get to it, friends! This is Internet Paladin signing out, for now.
